I wanted to surprise Sami with breakfast this morning, so I made something I haven’t had in a long time: egg in a hole. The recipe is fairly simple, cut a hole in bread, add egg, and cook on both sides. I didn’t want to do the boring standard thing though, so I stepped mine up in terms of flavor and cuteness. First, to make them slightly cuter, I used a heart shaped cutter to make the hole in the bread. Then to step up the flavor, I added cheese (provolone and cheddar) and siracha to mine and cooked it more like a grilled cheese sandwich. I also didn’t want to waste the pieces of bread I cut out, so I toasted them with some cheddar cheese to help sop up the egg.
Overall Sami really liked his surprise. He seemed to enjoy having breakfast made for him. I was worried if he’d like egg in a hole (he’d never had it), but not only did he eat all of his, but he finished mine too. I would totally surprise him with this again.
