This week I got a new lunch container that has Hello Kitty on the front, so I thought it would be fun to make a Hello Kitty themed bento. I love Hello Kitty and her friends. Growing up, I got so many of her branded products. Coloring books were my favorite. She represents just being good to people and friendship. Everyone can get around those principles.

The main part of my bento is a Hello kitty rice ball. This is simply rice that I shaped into a cat head using plastic wrap. I actually use plastic wrap to shape rice often. Most people already have it, and it doesn’t take up a lot of your counter space. Living in an apartment, space is important to me. Once they were shaped, I cut the outside of my dragon fruit to make her hot pink bow, and made the face out of nori.

I made BBQ turkey meatballs to have a form of protein on the plate. I just make these in a slow cooker. It’s easy and delicious. For a bit of freshness I cut up some raw red bell pepper and boiled some edamame.

I’d been going a bit baking crazy lately so I wanted a healthier dessert for this one. I just simply cut up some dragon fruit. This both satisfied my end of meal sweet tooth and added some freshness at the end of the meal. Too bad dragon fruit is so expensive in America because I really enjoy the flavor of it.

So did I represent Hello Kitty well here? I think I did and I enjoyed this bento. It was delicious, kept me full all day, and provided my daily dose of cuteness at work! In fact, my coworker informed me that this week’s has been he’s wife’s favorite of my bentos so far (I post them on Instagram before I finish the blog).
