We had an exciting weekend in San Diego! The main focus of the trip was that Sammy’s Aunt was in town for a mathematics conference, but we used it as an excuse to take a weekend for us as well. It started off with the drive down there; we chose the scenic route along the coast and just had to stop and admire the beauty of it. We really don’t get out and explore our own town enough. This trip really made me realize that I want to get out and see more of the natural beauty of southern California.

Once we got into the city, we picked up his Aunt May from the conference. And of course, our first stop was to get something to eat. We found a delicious Indian restaurant and spent a decent amount of time just catching up and talking while eating. Then we decided to go out and explore the downtown area. There were a bunch of cute shops and just hustle and bustle of an area on the move. We stopped by her hotel which was super nice to hear each other and got to know each other further. She was a delight to meet and l look forward to spending more time with her on a future date.

She’s really smart, a professor of mathematics and really artistic. In fact, she brought us a purse and some pillows she sewed for us. They are Abra (Pokémon) and so adorable! I couldn’t wait to come home and display my pillow. Sammy was particularly excited about the Jordan almonds though.

She had to leave early the next morning, so we decided to use the day to see the San Diego zoo after hearing so much about it. We were not disappointed. We ended up paying for a tour because there was no way we would have time to see it all without that. Plus, it got us to the front of the line at the Panda exhibit, the Polar Bear exhibit, and the Africa Rocks exhibit. Well worth the money and savior of our feet. They also had a sky basket which was neat, but honestly, I couldn’t see any of the animals from up there. I also made sure to snap a selfie at the flamingo exhibit for Sarah.

Overall it was just a really nice weekend and opened my eyes to all the unexplored areas we have yet to see. We really need to work on being tourists in our own backyard more or whatever the saying is.
